David J. Smith, Owner
Smith-Miner Funeral Home
Dave Smith has been in the funeral industry for many years. He started working in his father’s funeral homes at the age of 16 where he learned the ins and out of the business from the ground up. After graduating from Dow High School, he went on to earn his mortuary science degree in May of 1988 from Wayne State University. In 1989 at the age of 23 Dave purchased the Miner Funeral Home (established in 1908) from Jerry Miner and created Smith-Miner Funeral Home and has run it for the last 30 years. Dave is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) and Midland Rotary Club. Serving all chairs, including president for the MFDA’s District number 7, Dave has also been a Rotarian for 24 years and heads a committee for their biggest fundraiser every year. He resides in Midland with his wife Lisa, and has two sons, Christian and Mitchell. Dave was highly involved in the hockey association and served as the President of the Board after serving as equipment and sponsor director for 9 years. Due to a downtown revitalization Dave was displaced from the downtown area and a historical building giving him the opportunity to reinvest in the Midland community by building a new customized funeral home to meet the needs of the community for the next 100 years.
