Agnes Ellen Somerville, 96, of Midland, died peacefully at MidMichigan Stratford Village on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012. Agnes was born in Midland on May 19, 1915 to the late John and Anna (Fisher) Horden. Agnes worked at the Gordonville Grocery for over 30 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Gordonville United Methodist Church. Agnes loved baking (she made great pies) and she loved to dance. But, the most important thing she loved was her family. Agnes is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen (Dean) Noack of Midland, Loretta (Bernard) Shook of Midland, Connie (Donald) Chapin of Midland; adopted daughter, JoAnne Barnard; 19 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; and special friends, Kittie Horden, Goldie Toner and Evelyn Fick. Agnes was predeceased by her sons, Don King, Arthur Somerville and Michiel Somerville; 6 brothers and 2 sisters. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, with Pastor Tom Schomaker of Gordonville United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 4 til 7 pm and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Homer Township Cemetery.
