(December 9, 1924 – April 22, 2017)

Our Hearts are full of love and respect for Agnes M. Brief. wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and above all a loving and good woman. Agnes passed away on April 22, 2017, having graced her family, church, parish and community for years with kindness, grace and humility. She loved life. Agnes was born December 9, 1924 in Hannah, Michigan. The daughter of Joseph and Cecelia (Zenner) Boehnlein. Agnes attended Saint Mary’s School of Hannah, graduating and going on to attend the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Rapids. She graduated in 1946 and began her long nursing career by working at the Traverse City State hospital. Agnes married Gilford M. Brief of Traverse City on October 8, 1949. They moved to Midland, Michigan in April of 1950. She started working at Midland Medical Center in September of 1950 where she worked as an RN in various capacities both full and part time until 1991. Agnes reinvented her career in 1967 when she became an industrial nurse at Dow Chemical. She also formally retired from Dow Chemical in 1991. Agnes then began a new stage in her life when she began performing Private Duty Nursing along with Hospice services for Citizens of Midland County. She finally retired from nursing altogether in 2010. Agnes is survived by her five sons, Joseph and Gayla of Grawn, Mi, Michael and Debra of Beulah, MI, Stephen and Robin, Charles (Bill) and Lorraine, Patrick and Tammy, all Of Midland. A sister Hilda Maslowski of Traverse City, brother-in-law & sister-in-law Jack & Betty Brief of Traverse City, MI. 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Gilford, Her parents and six sisters; Kathleen Plough, Marion Martin, Ruth Brown, Imelda Boehnlein of Traverse City, Gertrude Harkins of Lansing and Helen Jane Fewless of Kalkaska. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Daniel J. Fox, OFM, Cap. officiating. Visitation will be held at Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm with a Vigil Service commencing at 7:00 pm and on Thursday at the church from 10 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Homer Township Cemetery.In Lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society, Heartland Hospice or Our Lady of Grace.On Line condolences can be left at smithminer.com
