Welcome to Smith Miner

Alan Scott Kuchek, 56, passed away on March 18, 2021.  He was born in Midland on May 10, 1964 to David Andrew and Carolyn Ann (Farson) Kuchek. 


Alan was a graduate of Oswego High School (NY) and proudly served in the United States Navy.  He was a talented builder and artist as well as an avid fisherman.  He enjoyed music and all sports involving teams from Detroit.  Alan was a mesmerizing story-teller and a spirited jokester to family and friends alike. Alan absolutely loved everything about family.  He adored his step-children and grandchildren. 


Alan is survived by his stepchildren, Alex Smith, Jordan Ratkos, Matthew Ratkos, Amber Ratkos, Rebekkah Johnson, and Sarah Barkume.  His grandchildren include Nathaniel and Colin Smith, Lily and Elijah Barkume, Bethanie Johnson, Wesley Ellis, and Haylee and Layla Ratkos.  His surviving siblings are Christine Kon (Spring Hill, TN), Brett Kuchek (Lebanon, TN), Paula Young (Whitman, MA), Sherry Kuchek (Smyrna, TN), David Kuchek (Peoria, AZ), Douglas Kuchek, Michael Sievers and Richard Kuchek (Snellville, GA), Andrew Sievers (Fairhaven, MA), and Philliip Kuchek (Braselton, GA).


A memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Smith Miner Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Dickerson officiating.  Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 10 am until the time of service.


Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Humane Society of Midland County.
