Alexander F. Waier, Jr. of Midland died at his home, with his loving wife by his side, on April 6, 2011, after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. He was 76 years old. Alex was born on Jan. 5, 1935, in Saginaw, to the late Gertrude (Wilcox) and Alexander F. Waier, Sr. Alex graduated from Arthur Hill High School and attended Michigan State University. On June 15, 1963, he married Judith Ann Roback at the Naval Chapel in Washington D.C. Alex was a decorated U.S. Navy Pilot during the Vietnam War. He also served the Navy as a flight instructor for 10 1/2 years. After his retirement from the service, Alex worked for The Dow Chemical Company in Rail Fleet Distribution, retiring in 1996 after 30 years. Alex was a Little League baseball coach for many years. He enjoyed puzzles, watching sports and was an avid reader. He also loved going to his family?ÇÖs lake cottage where he enjoyed swimming, fishing and riding ATV?ÇÖs with his grandchildren. Alex is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy; sons, Alexander F. (Robin) Waier III of Milwaukee, WI, Steven (Amy) Waier of Midland, Dr. Matthew (Dr. Renee Duff) Waier of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, David, Matthew, Maxwell, Isabel, Bennett, Cameron; sister, Agnes Stevens of Safety Harbor, FL and many nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his sister Patricia Nakfoor and his brother David Waier. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
