Allen Robert Fairbank, 89, of Midland, died on November 2, 2011 in Belding, Michigan. Allen was born in Wayne County, on Feb. 8, 1922 and raised by his adoptive parents Edward and Eva Fairbank. He married his sweetheart Dixie Lauretta Barnikow on Feb. 10, 1945 in Wheeler, Michigan. Allen served his county honorably during World War II in the U.S. Army. After the war he worked for Dow Corning in utility maintenance retiring in 1980. Being an avid golfer, he was a member of Currie Golf course. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren. He also loved to play cards and dance. Allen is survived by his wife Dixie; daughters, Tana Mashue, Lana (Pat) Blackhurst, Pam (Jeff) Start, Kim Yoder; son, Carl (Kim) Fairbank; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, with Pastor Kirk Havel officiating. Military Honors will be given under the auspices of the US Army and the Midland County Veterans. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 4 until 7 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
