Allison Carla Swanson, affectionately known as Ellie, 62, of Sanford, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2021 at Woodland Hospice of Mount Pleasant, with her loving family and close friends by her side. She was born on June 6, 1959, in Bay City, Michigan to Alton Swanson and Barbara (Ratell, Swanson) Larson. Allison graduated from Midland High School in 1977 and then furthered her education in Nursing. She was employed as an LPN at the Midland Hospital, Midland Family Physicians, and Gastroenterology and Hepatology Associates of Mid-Michigan. Allison loved people and was passionate about caring for all of her friends and family. She was an enthusiastic golfer, enjoyed family gatherings and could always be seen with a can of Coca Cola in hand. She was a devoted animal lover and treasured her dogs Ben, Maggs and Melvin.
Allison is survived by her siblings, Don (Barb) Ratell, Vicki (Jim) Snyder, Lori (Ivan) Wood, and Colleen St. James. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews; Tom (Lisa) Wilberding, Jake (Katie) Wilberding, Donat (Tricia) Ratell, Courtney (Dean) Spencer, Alyssa Wood, Justine (Greg) Bruzewski, Josh (Usherla) Snyder, Jenae (Jared) Zedaker and Cody (David) Kohler. She was lovingly referred to as “Grand Aunt” by her many cherished great grand nieces and nephews and her world revolved around them. She will also be truly missed by her loyal friends Mary Chamberlin, Kevin Shaneyfelt and Amy May. Allison was predeceased by her parents, her uncle Jerry Ratell and her beloved niece Ashley Wood.
A formal graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Bay City, Michigan on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Don Duford officiating. Family and friends will be gathering at the cemetery at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Please feel free to bring your own lawn chairs.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that all donations are gifted to Woodland Hospice House, 2597 S. Meridian Road, Mt. Pleasant, Ml 48858, who provided warm and loving care for Ellie during her final days.
