Andrew Garrett Smith, age 28, of Columbus, OH formerly of Midland died on Monday, May 18, at his home in his sleep of natural causes. Andrew was born on May 6, 1981 in Midland to Dr. Gary and Sandra (Schwarz) Smith.Andrew graduated in 1999 from H. H. Dow High School where he was the captain of 1997 team. State Runner Up of 1999 football team and he also made the Michigan High School All State Team. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, especially football. Andrew loved hockey and was an active player having played at Grand Valley State. He had a deep love of his dog Butkus and all dogs. He was a camp counselor, a white water rafting guide and a search and rescue diver. He loved camping and the great outdoors. Andrew was member of First United Methodist Church. He had a passion for people and good friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Andrew is survived by his parents Gary and Sandra; sisters Heather (Michael) Lunt of Ada, Sarah (Blaine) Winslow of Lansing; brother, Adam (Cheryl) of Boston, MA; grandmother Deanie Smith-Evans of Gallipolis, OH; nieces and nephews Patrick, Natalie, Lindsey, Marissa, Stella, Josephine, Charlie and Sophia. A Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Friday, May 22 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Brent L. McCumons officiating. The family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church on Thursday from 4 – 6 pm and at the church from 1:00 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may consider the Community Assistance Fund at First United Methodist Church or the Midland Area Foundation’s Animal Assistance Endowment Fund.
