Anna Mae Steenhagen, 83, of Midland, died peacefully at home, on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012. Anna was born on April 17, 1929 in Salem, OH to the late William and Gertrude (Miller) Finnigan. Anna served her country in the U.S. Marines advancing to the rank of Staff Seargent. She worked in the Pentagon and received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Award and was a Leadership School Graduate. Anna was a member of St. Brigid’s Catholic Church and was also a member of the Legion of Mary and Daughters of Isabella. She taught religious education and confirmation classes. Anna served on Parish Commissions, did home visits and was a Eucharistic Minister. She collected teddy bears and angels and she loved to work puzzles. Anna is survived by her daughters, Ann of Midland, Sharon Finnigan of Ames, Iowa; sons, Donald Jr. (Polly) of Dover, DE, Stephen of Grayling, Michael (Kathy) of Roland, Iowa, Mark of Midland; grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Jessica, Nick, Gage, Grace and Charlie; one great grandson, Ethan Keidel. Anna was predeceased by her grandson Donald III; sisters, Mary, Blanche, Sarah and her brothers William, Paul and John. A Funeral Liturgy will be on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Brigid’s of Kildare Catholic Church with Father Patrick O’Connor Liturgent. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Monday, Nov. 12 from 4 until 6:30 pm at which time there will be a vigil service, and on Tuesday at the church from 10 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Salem, Ohio. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the American Cancer Society of St. Brigid’s of Kildare.
