Barbara H. Prewozniak, 82, of Midland died April 8, 2011 at the Midland Kings Daughters and Sons Home.The daughter of the late William M. and Blanche (Frye) Haley, a pioneer family of Midland County, was born on December 10, 1928 in Midland where she was raised, educated and lived her entire life. She graduated from Midland High School in 1946 and attended both Alma and Delta Colleges.Barbara married John Prewozniak on February 12, 1949 at St. Brigid Catholic Church and during their 38 years together they traveled to Ireland and many other destinations. She served as the first Health Director for the Midland Community Center Girls Camp at Camp Neyati from 1964 to 1976. Barbara was appointed by former Michigan Governor William Milliken in May 1975 to serve on the Midland County Jury Board. She served in that position for 10 years. She also served on the Midland County Election Board for over 25 years, many as chairman at Central Middle School.Barbara was a member of St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, Midland Kings Daughters and Sons, Chippewa Nature Center, Midland Antique Society, Midland County Historical Society and the Belleek Collectors International Society. She was a charter member of the Great Lakes Chapter of Belleek Collectors. In addition to her involvement in many community organizations Barbara volunteered over the years for the American Red Cross, the Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America.Barbara enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, crocheting, reading, traveling and Bridge. She traveled to forty-five states and many foreign countries. Highlights of her travels included several family vacations to Disney World, a swim in the Amazon, a cog wheel train ride to view the Matterhorn and four trips to Ireland. Barbara is survived by her children, John D. Prewozniak of Midland, Joan (David) Rickard of Midland and James (Patricia) Prewozniak of Boca Raton Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jamie (Brian) Harvey, Katherine Rickard and Morgan Rivera, her great- grandchildren, Taylor Harvey, A.J. Harvey and Marina Rivera, sisters-in-law, Margaret Wejrowski and Virginia (Don) Dzurka and brother-in-law Alfred (Kay) Prewozniak. In addition she is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.Barbara was predeceased by her husband John on December 23, 1987, her parents, sisters Margaret (Albert) Maasberg and Helen (EJ) Hunemorder, infant brothers William and Robert Haley; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leokadia and Peter Prewozniak and brother-in-law, Leonard Wejrowski.A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 12 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church with Father Jose Para and Deacon Al Oliver officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Old Calvary Cemetery.Mrs. Prewozniak?ÇÖs family will receive friends at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Monday, April 11, from 4 til 7 pm followed by a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of service.
