(January 20, 1942 – June 5, 2010)

Bernadette Adams, 68, died on June 5th at her home. She was born to the late Cecelia and Joseph DeMuch on Jan. 20, 1942 in Hamtramck, MI. She graduated from the University of Detroit and Wayne State University. She worked as a social worker in the metro Detroit area for many years, until moving to Midland in 1985. Bernadette married David R. Sylvester on Oct. 1, 1985 and he survives her. Bernadette enjoyed reading, writing, photography, loved roses, learning and sharing in Bible study, and traveling around Michigan, especially any area around Lake Superior. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brothers John DeMuch of Marine City and Ted (Maria) DeMuch of Sterling Heights, nieces Grace DeMuch and Elizabeth (Robert) Barnes. Other survivors include step-children, Judith Vincent of Midland, David Sylvester of Hawaii, Barbara (Robert) Bailey of Ferndale, Elizabeth MacCourt of Midland and Ruth Kuechmann-MacCourt of Midland; step-grandchildren Jason (Jennifer) Leff, Leo Sylvester, Nyesha Bryant and Cameron MacCourt; great grandchildren Gabriel Bryant and Noella Leff; dear special sister-in-law Mary Arrigone, and very special friend P J Walcik. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and former husband Mark Adams. Bernadette expressed her deep appreciation for the love and support of friends near and far, especially after her diagnosis of ovarian cancer 2008. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 9 at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Michael H. Wilson officiating. A burial will follow at Calvary Mausoleum. The Family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and at the church on Wed. from 10:00 until the time of the service.
