Bertha “Bea” Heikkila Grosteffon, 89, of Midland, died on February 19, 2013 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. Bea was born in Gladwin County on Jan. 31, 1924 to the late Frank and Lura (Smith) Hoggard. In March of 1946 Bea married Arthur Heikkila and he predeceased her in 1981. On Feb. 12, 1984 Bea married Russell D. Grosteffon. Bea was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church. She loved her family and loved playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bea was a quilter. She loved making quilts, mittens and hats for the first born child in every month at the hospital and hats for cancer patients. Bea is survived by her husband Russell; daughters, Mary (Ray) Emery of Midland, Betty Sanborn of Midland, Debra (Dick) Grice of Hope, Susan (Fred) Klich of Midland; sons, Bruce (Tara) Heikkila of Yelm, WA, Richard (Karen) Grosteffon of Battle Creek, Paul (Lynda) Grosteffon of Midland; 25 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren and her sister, Ida Peasley of Midland and several nieces and nephews. Bea was predeceased by her daughters Catherine Cepak, Linda McLean; son David Heikkila; 1 grandchild; brothers Thomas (Margaret) Hoggard, Everett (Arthella) Hoggard, Wesley (Dora) Hoggard, Norman (Evelyn) Hoggard, Robert (Evelyn) Hoggard, Anthony Hoggard, three (3) infant brothers; sisters, Leta (Walter) Timmons, Della (Ted) Toner and one who died as a child. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Trinity Wesleyan Church with Pastor Luke Hansen officiating. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 4 until 7 pm. and on Friday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Following the service burial will take place at Midland Memorial Gardens.
