Welcome to Smith Miner

(June 27, 1943 – June 30, 2015)

Beverly B. Schwartz, 72 of Midland, died and met her Lord and Savior face to face June 30, 2015. Bev died at her home of a cancer detected in April of this year. She was born June 27, 1943 in Marion, Michigan. Her parents were Pete S. and Gertrude (Kurtz) Bontekoe. On June 26, 1966, she married John C. Schwartz in Marion. In her core being, Bev was a teacher, armed with her Bachelor?ÇÖs degree in Elementary education from MSU and her Master?ÇÖs from CMU she taught at the Adam?ÇÖs Elementary school in Midland. After spending several years nurturing their children John and Annette, she joined her husband John in their accounting and tax service. The setting was different, but Bev was ever the teacher in working with her clients. Overriding all she did was her Christian concern for those in need. Though her education was directed at the elementary level, she applied this skill to all ages. She worked with Sunday school, small group bible studies, listening to 1st grade students read at the Floyd Elementary as ?Ç£Grandma Bev?Ç¥ and encouraged friends in alternative living facilities. The birth of her triplet grandchildren, Zane, Bo and Daisy Schwartz gave retirement a whole new look. Following that year, granddaughter Rachel was born in Massachusetts and a year after that Chet Schwartz in Midland. Bev was in glorious full speed ahead with grandmothering. Her passions included traveling throughout the USA via motor home. In season, she enjoyed getting down and dirty in her vegetable and flower gardens. She will be missed by her husband John, her son John (and Molly) Schwartz, her daughter Annette (and Martin) Sterman, her sister Brenda (and Bo) Widman, brother Peter J (and Pam) Bontekoe, along with Brother-in-law Ed Kirkby and many nieces and nephews. We would be wrong not to mention her loving family at the Homer United Methodist Church and the numerous prayer partners from near and far. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Barbara Kirkby.Arrangements have been entrusted to the Smith-Miner funeral home. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 3, at Homer United Methodist church at 11:00 am with Pastor Josh Blanchard officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and on Friday at the church from 10 am until the time of service. Lunch will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
