Beverly Jean Mapes, 72, of Midland died on Aug. 10, 2010, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland with her family at her side. Beverly was born in Midland on Jan. 6, 1938 to the late Sara (Wray) and Albert Church. On Feb. 9, 1957 Beverly married her sweetheart Lavern Mapes at the Homer Church. Beverly loved to square dance. She was part of a card club and a craft club. She also worked at the Senior Center in Sanford. Beverly loved children, people and animals, she was very big hearted and was a people person. Beverly is survived by her husband Lavern; daughter Sarah of midland; sons, Greg of Traverse City, Eugene (Sharon) of Anderson, SC, Jeffrey (Kelly) of Travlers Rest, SC, Aaron (Betty) of Taylors, SC; grandchildren, Kelsy Wagner, Brad, Sonya and Shannon Alwine, Austin Mapes, Curt Watts, Carla Watts, Michelle Mapes, Matthew Mapes; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sisters, Nancy Wrathell of Midland, Doreen (Eldin) Schalk of Midland, Sharon (Terry) Burrell of Riverside, CA; sister-in-laws, Jean Findlay of Florida, Joanne Church of Miland, Mary Jane Church of Montana; brother-in-law Al Hopkins of Midland; and many friends, nieces and nephews. Beverly was predeceased by her sister Carol Hopkins, brothers, Bill Findlay, Richard (Jean) Church, Robert Church and Thomas Church. A Funeral Service will be held at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Saturday, August 14 at 11:00 am with Pastor Alan Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 pm and on Sat. from 10 until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Homer Township Cemetery.
