Welcome to Smith Miner

Bruce Byler, 58, of Freeland, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on November 5, 2018. He was born on February 24, 1960 to Allen and Eunice (Hartman) Byler. He married Rhoda Kindy on August 6, 1983 and they had 35 wonderful years together.

Bruce knew how to live and love people. He owned Artistic Finishes, a furniture restoration business. He enjoyed nature, the woods, and spending time in his hut. He also enjoyed music, church and attending gospel camp meetings. More than anything, he valued being with God and family.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Rhoda, children, Amanda Byler, Judith (Joel) Cook, Kendra (Merle) Swartzentruber, Kathryn Byler, David Byler, Caleb Byler and grandchildren, Kaelyn, Janessa and Austin Cook. He is also survived by his mother Eunice Byler and siblings, Will (Darlene) Byler, James (Darla) Byler, Lois (Keith) Repman, Rachel (Gary) Stoppard and Rebecca (Wendel) Hostetler.

Bruce was predeceased by his father, Allen Byler.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, November 9, 2018, at Smith-Miner Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Lang officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home from 4-7 pm and at the funeral home on Friday from 9 am until the time of service. I am also sorry for your loss of a Father and Husband. I considered Bruce a very good friend for many years and will miss him. We shared a few cookies through the years at his shop and talked about family and business. He was a man of faith and a man with a great laugh who was respected for his abilities and his friendship. Rest easy Bruce.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. May you all feel the presence of the everlasting arms of the Eternal God who is thy refuge.
What a blessing has been ours to have known Bruce and to share the love of his family in our home in numerous ways, and then to be blessed to have Kendra for a daughter-in-law.
Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Imagine his joy, free from the shackles of any disease, and rejoicing in the presence of the Savior whom he loved. Grace and peace to all.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. The antique bedroom set that he refinished for me will have extra meaning to me knowing that Bruce did such nice work.
