Chester R. Cousins, 69, of Rhodes, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013. Chester was born in Sterling, MI, on June 5, 1943 to the late, Mayfield and Rozella (Spencer) Cousins. On April 13, 1968 Chester married his sweetheart Sally Fick in Sterling, MI and they were happily married for 44 years. Chester served his country honorably during two (2) tours in Viet Nam. He was currently serving as the Commander of the Standish VFW Post and was also a past Commander of the Midland VFW Post and the VFW District. Chester worked for GM for over 31 years retiring in 1998. Chester was an avid deer hunter and bowled in Midland, Standish and Pinconning. Chester is survived by his loving wife Sally; daughters, Penny (Joe) Coates, Betty Young, Carrie (Scott Rhodes) Parsons; grandchildren, Michael Coates, Joseph Coates, Jackie Parsons, Matthew Laughton, Jessie Laughton, Eric Laughton; sisters, Betty (Wayne) Ellison, Ruth Jane (Haven) Ahern, Carol (Al) Winters; brothers, Louis (Jackie) Cousins, Henry (Carolyn) Cousins, Harvey (Mary) Cousins, Howard Cousins; brother-in-law Lloyd Seley. Chester was predeceased by his sisters, Faye Seley, Lucille Cousins; and his brothers Bill, Duane and Jackie Cousins. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Military honors will be under the auspices of the Standish VFW.
