Welcome to Smith Miner

(March 18, 1943 – February 27, 2010)

Daniel T. Broughton, Sr., died at his residence on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 after a brief and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. The son of the late Clyde and Lila (Ihrke) Broughton, was born on March 18, 1943 in Saginaw. Dan was an avid hunter, never missing a deer, turkey, or small game season. He spent as much time at his cabin near McKinley, MI as he possibly could and was proud of his accomplishments on the many cabin remodeling projects he undertook. Retired from Midland County, Dan was currently employed by First Baptist Church. He considered the staff and congregation his special family, developing many loyal friendships. Dan loved to read, and enjoyed many sports on TV. He had a knack for knowing how to fix all things. Dan is survived by his wife, Sue; son Dan, Jr., of Grand Blanc, Steven of Anderson, SC; two step-children, Tracey Law, Midland, and Scott Law, WI; grandchildren, Daniel III, Nicholas, Victoria and Holly; brother-in-law Robert (Kathy) Charles, Jr. He also leaves behind his loyal hunting buddy, Ollie, and his adoring Maggie. In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob Charles, Sr. and Irene Charles. With the loss of Bob, Sr., his hunting pal, his still hunted, but never fully enjoyed it in the same way as before Bob’s death. A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 2 at 11:00 am, with the Reverend John Dick officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until the time of the service. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, www.smithminer.com.
