(December 5, 1931 – May 3, 2011)

Darwin H Hartman, 79, of Midland, went into the eternal loving arms of Jesus on May 3, 2011 following an accident that claimed his earthly life. He was born on Dec. 5, 1931 in Chippewa Lake, MI and lived in the Barryton area for many years and was a graduate of Barryton High School. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Winnie; daughters, Rebecca (Dale) DeWaard, Darla (Reverend Michael) Palmer; four grandchildren; one great granddaughter; three brothers, Carl, Dennis (Renate), and Ronald (Edie), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in his coming home to Jesus by his parents, Herman and Laura Hartman. Darwin was a life time member of the Church of God out of Anderson, IN., most recently worshipping at Eagle Ridge Church of God in Midland. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1952-1954. He worked at the Mt. Pleasant State Home for nine years and retired from Dow Corning after 26 years of faithful service, he was a member of United Steelworkers #12075. Darwin had been an avid hunter and fisherman. In recent years, he pursued his passion for antique cars and was a member of the Script “A” Car Club, Central Michigan Old Car Club and the Cars of the Past Touring Club. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 6 at the Eagle Ridge Church of God with Reverend Jim Shanks officiating. Darwin’s family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Thursday, May 5, from 5 to 8 pm and on Friday at the church from 10 am until the time of service. Full military rites will be given under the auspices of the United States Army and the Midland County Veterans.
