Dean J. Cooper

Dean Jeffrey Cooper, 72, of Midland, beloved father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2021. He was born on October 27, 1948 to Frank and Birdie (Brandt) Cooper.

Dean owned and operated D & D Asphalt Specialists for 35 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, riding bikes and walking in the outdoors. His grandchildren were most important to him and he loved them dearly.


Dean is survived by his partner in life, Debra R. Klemt, children, Richard (Kelly) Cooper, Frank (Amanda) Cooper, grandchildren, Chad, Robert, Travis, Tyler, Tanner, Ashley, Lizzie, Sam I Am, TT, great grandchildren, Jazzmine and Hudson. He is also survived by his father, Frank Cooper, the children’s mother, Patricia Cooper, brother, Richard (Elaine) Cooper. Dean was predeceased by his daughter Danette M. Cunningham, mother, Eileen Cooper and sister Joanne Piland.


A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, Midland. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will take place at Lee Township Cemetery.

    Grandpa Dean was an amazing man. He knew how to make people smile he never gave up on making his grandkids smile even his kids. I als=ways thought he hated me but he never did.

    Sorry to hear about Dean. D and D did all my asphalt work for years in MtPleasant and at our home in Sanford .I always enjoyed talking
    with Dean and had a lot of good laughs. I will miss talking with him

    About 40 years ago Dean spent a few years in Nebraska. I was fortunate enough to work with him in the oil field. Our relationship never ended. I’ve met very few people that had a passion for life, character, compassion and honor.
    The world could use a few more good men,
    He’ll be missed!!!

    To Deans Family, Dean got me involved in township when he become supervisor. Over twenty plus years we worked and played together, always a gentleman andsought the best solution. It was a pleasure being his friend. Tom Strouse
