Dixie Lauretta Fairbank, 86, of Midland, died on Feb. 8, 2012 at the Toni and Trish house in Auburn. Dixie was born on Sept. 21, 1925, in Alpena, to the late Fred A. and Marguerite A. (King) Barnikow. Dixie was married to the late Allen Robert Fairbank who predeceased her on Nov. 2, 2011. Dixie was an avid golfer, being a one-time city champion. She enjoyed bowling and she loved playing cards and going to the casino. Dixie was a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII in Bay City. Dixie loved watching her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Dixie is survived by daughters, Tana Mashue, Lana (Pat) Blackhurst, Pam (Jeff) Start, Kim Yoder; son, Carl (Kim) Fairbank; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; sisters, Bertha (Fred) Brown, Norma (Dick) McMann and many nieces and nephews. Dixie was predeceased by 1 brother and 3 sisters. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly with Reverend Gerald Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11 am until the time of the service.
