(July 22, 1928 – June 17, 2013)

Dorothy Brown Carpenter, 84, passed away on June 17, 2013. She was born in Midland on July 22, 1928 to Neil and Ruth Brown. She married Manson C. “Bud” Carpenter in 1950. She had written the following: Dorothy was always appreciative of life’s many blessings: her special husband, Bud; her outstanding children—Ruth Forrest of Beulah, MI, Carolyn (Larry) Moats of Scottsdale, AZ and Traverse City, MI, and Chuck (Sally) Carpenter of St. Louis, MO; Her beautiful and talented grandchildren—Luke, Eliza and Alex Forrest, Carrie Moats Geer and Ryan Moats, and Nick, Julia and Will Carpenter; her four great grandchildren—Caitlin and Nick Forrest and Lawrence and Madeline Geer; and her many brothers and sisters , nieces and nephews. Dorothy leaves best wishes and love to her friends and asks that they remember the many years of friendships and fun. Dorothy truly enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. Very special to her was traveling and learning about European life while living in the Netherlands with her family. Her “fun” was always her art. She had many rears of classes, workshops, and art camps. When Michigan winters became “long” as she aged, she enjoyed cross-country skiing in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. The family also had many fun vacations at their cottage on Crystal Lake in northwestern Michigan. A Memorial Visitation will be held at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly on Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 3-5 pm. The family will hold a private Memorial Service at a later date.
