Dorothy R. Balcirak, 85, of Midland, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2017 surrounded by her family at MidMichigan Medical Center. She was born on July 20, 1931 in Detroit, MI, daughter to the late Edward and Mae (Winn) Koslowsky. On May 26, 1951 Dorothy married Stephen J. Balcirak and in 1955 they moved to Stephen’s home town of Midland. In 1962 Dorothy and her husband Stephen opened Balcirak’s Super Service.
Dorothy was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, active in her church and the community. She enjoyed gardening, camping, and fishing with her family, going on casino trips with her friends, collecting beanie babies and everything Snoopy. For the past 6 years she very much enjoyed living at Riverside Place Senior Community on Main Street in Midland.
Dorothy will be missed by many but especially her children, Mike (Sue) Balcirak, Steve Balcirak, Richard (Pam) Balcirak and Dennis Balcirak, grandchildren, Joanna (David) Waun, Jeremy, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Michael and Jennifer Balcirak; Richelle and Ashley Sampier; Hailey, Mellissa (Ben)Cooley and Ben (Allison) Dittenbir; great grandchildren, Paige, Rebecca and Tyler Balcirak; Hunter Waun, Silas Taylor, Devon, and Connor Dittenbir.
Dorothy was preceded by her husband Stephen, sister June Bradley and daughter-in-law Carla Balcirak.
A funeral liturgy celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church officiated by Fr. Jack Johnson with graveside burial rites following at New Calvary Cemetery. Dorothy’s family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 5th from 4-7 pm and at the church on Thursday from 9 am until the time of service. A Christian Vigil service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00pm.
In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to Toni and Trish House or to the Ladies of Blessed Sacrament, in Dorothy’s name.
