Douglas Alan Dale, age 71, left his earthly home on July 25, 2021, and is now present with his Savior after his two-year journey with pancreatic cancer. Doug was born in Midland, Michigan, on February 17, 1950, to the late Stanley and Virginia (Arnold) Dale. He attended Forest Elementary School in Auburn until 1961 when his parents moved to what is now the Dale family farm in Midland. Doug then attended Bullock Creek Public Schools and graduated in 1968. He married Peggy Marie Shepherd on June 19, 1971. He retired from his career with the Midland County Road Commission at the age of 47 and subsequently worked at Woody’s International of Hope, MI, for fifteen years. He then permanently retired in 2010 to enjoy life in the country on the Shepherd family farm in Edenville.
In their early years, Doug and Peggy enjoyed spending time in northern Michigan on their dune buggy; later with their sons, summers were enjoyed boating, camping, and exploring Michigan’s lakes and islands. He was also an avid snowmobiler for many years. During retirement, Doug spent numerous hours on his various John Deere tractors and in his woodworking shop. He loved being in the woods logging and splitting wood, working alongside his family. Doug was cherished as a unique, humorous, and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a longtime member at Hope Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are Doug’s wife of fifty years, Peggy (Shepherd) Dale, his sons David (Iris) Dale of New York, Daren (Lisa) Dale of Edenville, and grandsons Drew, Will, Jack, Luke, and Lucius Dale. Doug also leaves behind his loving sister Lori (Chris Montague) Dale; brothers-in-law Robert Shepherd and Craig (Teresa) Shepherd; and sister-in-law Jackie (Joe) Balzola. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Dale Hignite. Doug’s ultimate joy in life was knowing and being known by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will forever be remembered for his cheerful, generous, and affectionate nature.
