Duane M. Mason Sr., 66, of Hope, died peacefully at home with his loving family by his side, on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012. Duane was born in Midland on April 17, 1946 to Gerald and Dolores (Patterson) Mason. On Oct. 12, 1968 Duane married his sweetheart Charlene Root at Calvary Baptist Church on Cherry St. in Midland. Duane loved serving others and was a dedicated Sherriff in Orlando, FL. for over 15 years. He served in the US Army in Vietnam and was honorably discharged. Duane loved hunting, traveling, being outdoors (especially on his property). Duane’s family was the love of his life. He was always telling his children and grandchildren how proud he was of them. Duane is survived by his wife Charlene; mother, Dolores; daughter, Heather (Kevin) Joyce of Snohomish, WA; son, Michael (Cynthia) Mason of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Karissa, Matthew, Kathleen and his sister Yvonne (Bruce) Eckhart of Hope. Duane was predeceased by his father Gerald Mason. A Funeral Service will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, on Monday, Sept. 24 at 11:00 am with Pastor Dan Dickerson and Dr. Sheldon Schearer officiating. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Sunday, Sept. 23 from 4 until 7 pm and on Monday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Military rights will be under auspices of the U.S. Army and the Midland County Veterans. Burial will take place at New Hope Cemetery on Monday at 3:00 pm.
