Edison A Shepherd, 92, died on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Clare Bridge of Midland. Edison was born on August 20, 1916 to the late William and Maude (Jackson) Shepherd in Edenville. He graduated from Midland High School in 1933 and the day after graduation he went to work for Dow Chemical and whom he worked for until he retired in 1973. On June 17, 1939 Edison married his sweetheart Lucille Shell and they had 64 happy years together until her death in Aug. of 2003. After retiring from Dow he went to work for Harrison Piping until he retired from there in 1980. Edison was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a Mason and a member of the Midland Country Club. He loved golfing, hunting, carpentry work and he was a perfectionist. He will be missed by all that knew him. Edison’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Southern Care Hospice and at Clare Bridge of Midland. Edison is survived by his daughters Connie (Jack) Cron, Judy (Marv) Church; sons, James E. Shepherd, Gary (Cindy) Shepherd; grandchildren, Jeff (Karen) Cron, Cari (Omer) Samyn, Jim (Rhonda) Cron, Jon Church, Brian Church, James S. Shepherd, Troy (Andrea) Shepherd, Sara Shepherd; 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Edison was preceded in death by his sisters, Cecelia Wolfe, Elsie Maynard, Amy Fall and his brothers Fay and Len. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:00 am with Pastor Nancy Young officiating. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Sunday July 19 from 4 till 7 pm and at the Church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that you donate to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or to Southern Care Hospice.
