Eileen Miriam (Dunkle) Winger, 95, of Midland died on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at MidMichigan Stratford Village.She was born on June 6, 1915, in Wooster, Ohio, to Leo L. and Edna (Kaufman) Dunkle. She was a 1933 graduate of Wooster High School.On June 6, 1937 she was married in Kipton, Ohio, to John William (Bill) Winger, a graduate student at Oberlin Theological Seminary. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 2001. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by baby daughter Constance Kay and son and daughter-in-law John William Winger II, and Joan Winger, also sister Wilda Stewart of Barberton, Ohio, and brother Philip Dunkle of Fort Wayne, Ind.Eileen is survived by two sons, Donald and Douglas (Beverly) Winger, both of Midland. Grandchildren, Darrell (Kara) Winger, David (Michelle) Winger, Sheila Cole, Greg (Sarah) Winger, and Traci (Brad) Herek, and eight great-grandchildren.After her beloved Bill was ordained a Congregational (later to become the United Church of Christ) minister in 1937, she pastored with him in churches throughout Michigan, Ohio and Iowa. She moved to Midland in 1978 after their retirement from the Bostwick Lake Congregational UCC in Rockford, Mi.Eileen loved to cook and bake. She was affectionately known as “The Cookie Lady” for the many varieties she baked for church bazaars and the annual “Cookie Day” at the Midland Daily News where both Don and Doug are employed. She also enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers from the many places she visited.A thank you to her caregivers, June, Candy and Ronnie and the staff at MidMichigan Stratford Village.Funeral services will be conducted from the Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Pancost officiating. Burial will be in Midland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
