Ernest Samuel Simmerman, 95, of Midland, passed away on March 14, 2018 at MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born on January 10, 1923 to the late Samuel and Elizabeth (McCarry) Simmerman. On September 27, 1942 he married Dena VanMeter who predeceased him on November 14, 2017.
Ernest worked as a pipefitter for Dow Chemical Company retiring in 1982. He was a deacon at the Nease Nazarene Church for many years. Ernest enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening and spending time up in the U.P.
Ernest is survived by his children, Jean Sprague, Larry Simmerman, Becky (McGraw) Simmerman, Peggy Spencer, 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Wesley (Joann) Simmerman and his sister, Kate Marks.
Ernest was predeceased by his daughter, Sue Spencer, siblings, Marlin (Virginia) Simmerman, Vera (Nelson) Maddox, Elenore (Bill) Gardner and Gloria (Ernie) Brown.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home with Pastor Beth Hanson of Nease Nazarene officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am until the time of service.
