Eugene Timothy Mayer, 47 of Sanford, died after a long courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. Eugene was born on June 13, 1965, to John and Elizabeth (Snider) Mayer in Lakeview, Michigan. He married Dawn Marie Bloomberg on July 24, 1999, in Remus, MI. Eugene graduated from Chippewa Hills High School in Remus, MI where he was involved in football, wrestling and track. He then continued his education and wrestling at Muskegon Community College and finished up at ITT in Grand Rapids. Eugene was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Sanford, a member of the Knights of Columbus 7869 in Remus. He loved to play cards, throw horseshoes, attend family gatherings, play ball with his boys, and spend time with his wife and boys. Eugene will be best remembered for his love of family and his Catholic faith.Eugene is survived by his wife of 13 years, Dawn, and two sons, Jacob (12) and Andrew (8). He is also survived by eight sisters, Caroline Granville of Phoenix, AZ, Margaret Simon of Battle Creek, Mary Ellen (Don) Blough of Remus, Agnes (Thomas) Barker of Wyoming, Dorothy (Ron) Hart of Mecosta, Rose (Zane) Rice of Cedar Springs, Joanne (Phill) Lundie of Mecosta, and Shirley (Rick) Denslow of Remus; eight brothers, Robert (Iris) of Sheridan, Mike (Edith) of Brighton, Gerry (Kathy) of Owosso, Arnold (Joyce) of Evart, Donald (Linda) of Remus, Rich (Kathy) of Grand Haven, John Jr. (Julie) of Remus, and Earl (Andi) of Mecosta; sisters-in-law, Patricia Morrone of Reed City, Donna (Dave) Ruppert of Hersey; brothers-in-law, Samuel Morrone of Reed City, James (Anne) Morrone of Big Rapids, Paul Morrone of Reed City, Kenneth Bloomberg of Georgia, Glen Bloomberg of Flint, George Bloomberg of Sears, and Brad (Jennifer) Youngs of Byron Center and many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; parents-in-law; sister Barbara Yanez; brother Martin; in-laws; John Granville, Herman Simon, Willie Yanez and Suanne Youngs; nieces Rebecca Mayer, Stephanie Simon and Ashley Mayer. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday April 30, 2013 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Sanford, with Father Dan Fox Celebrant. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Monday, April 29 from 4 until 7 pm, with a Vigil Service at 7 pm, and at Church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service. Interment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery.
