F. Lucille Swinehart of Midland died at Colonial Villa, Midland on May 23, 2009.The daughter of Melvin and Fannie Bellinger, a pioneer family of Gladwin County, she was born Dec. 20, 1909 in Gladwin Township. Lucille graduated from Gladwin High School, Gladwin County Normal and Central State Teachers College (CMU). She taught school in Gladwin County at the McClure, Ridge and Bard Schools. The former F. Lucille Bellinger married Richard W. Swinehart on March 24, 1932 in Alma, MI. They raised their family in Midland and in retirement moved to Higgins Lake, Roscommon County. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church of Midland. Lucille was devoted to her family and to Higgins Lake. She loved birds and beautiful flowers, was a highly skilled seamstress, knitter and rug hooker who shared her wonderful creations with her family. She will be greatly missed. Richard predeceased her on Jan. 23, 1999. She was also predeceased by her sisters Helen E. Ogg, Marian A. Mowrey Reinberg and brother John C. Bellinger. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Mary Louise (Robert) Warne, Frederic M. (Carole) Swinehart of Midland, James R. (Jenelle) Swinehart of Western Springs, IL. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Susan (Bruce) Dunek of Keokuk, IA. Sarah (Jeffrey) Yoest of Westerville, OH, Thomas R. Warne of San Francisco and Beijing, China, Karen (Kurt) Newman of Haslett, Anneke (Sean Kelly) Swinehart of San Francisco, CA, Karl F. Swinehart of Philadelphia, PA, James Swinehart Jr. of Western Springs, IL, David (Kathy) Swinehart of LaGrange IL, Julie (Andrea Hornickle) Swinehart of LaGrange, IL. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren, Daniel and Mary Lee Yoest, Phillip Dunek, Lily Carole Gorman and Nicholas Newman, Michael and Natalie Swinehart, Brandon, Benjamin and Emma Kate Hornickle. Also surviving are her dear sister-in-law, Geneva Bellinger of Gladwin and four step great grandchildren, Theresa, Laura, Tracie and Jessica. The family wishes to thank the staff at Colonial Villa for their loving care of Lucille. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date with burial at the Ridge Cemetery, Gladwin County. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Higgins Lake Foundation (P.O. Box753, Roscommon, MI 48643) which promotes the quality of the lake and its watershed or to the F. Lucille Memorial at Colonial Villa (5000 Universal Dr., Midland, MI 48640. Smith-Miner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
