Fred E. Overly, 70, of Midland, died on Jan. 20, 2011 at home with his family by his side. Fred was born on Feb. 10, 1940, in Midland to the late John and Irene (Thomas) Overly. On June 25, 1960, Fred married his sweetheart, Marlene Dice. Fred and Marlene spent over 50 happy years together. Fred was a drywall finisher for over 32 years working for Painters Local Union 1803. He was a Golden Member of the Midland Eagles. Fred loved spending time with his family. Enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, and weekends at the dirt track at Merritt Speedway. He was an avid Nascar and Detroit Tiger fan. He loved his yard, especially his pond, sitting in a swing with the love of his life, cooking over the open fire. Fred touched the lives of everyone he knew. In passing he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Fred is survived by his wife Marlene; together they had 4 children, Rocky (Cheri) Overly and their children, Marie (Jason) Tripp, Christine (Keith) Geiling, Elizabeth Meister; Kevin (Sue) Overly and their children, Heather Overly, Casey (John) Logsdon; David (Kelly) Overly and their children, Shane and Shannon Overly; Deborah (Travis) Latoski and their children, Kayte, Renee, Amber Metzger, Joslyn Latoski; Teresa (Jeff) Satterelli and their children, Josh and Joey; great grandchildren, Meya, Avery, Kennedy; sister, Jenny Gay; brother, Lloyd (Thelma) Overly and special friend Tim English. Fred was predeceased by 2 sisters, 5 brothers and in-laws, Betty and Pearl Dice. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday. Jan. 29, at 11:00 am at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, with Reverend Bob Whittaker officiating. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 29 from 10 am until the time of the service.
