George Alan Palm, 85, of Ludington, Michigan, died on September 2, 2010 in Saginaw, Michigan, of complications from Alzheimer?ÇÖs Disease.George was born in Ludington, on January 5, 1925, to the late Anna (Nelson) and George Palm. He graduated from Ludington High School in 1942, and attended Northwestern University.George served his country in World War II, as an officer in the United States Army Air Corps as a B-25 pilot. He was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant in 1945. Upon graduation from Northwestern University in 1949, he returned to Ludington to join his mother, working at The Palm Floor Covering Company.George married Marjorie L. Pierson, in Muncie, Indiana, on July 23, 1950. He became a sales representative for James Lees and Sons Carpets in 1954. He worked for Lees Carpets as a territory manager for 33 years, in Marietta and Columbus, Ohio and Midland, Michigan. Upon retirement in 1987, he was self employed as a Certified Carpet Inspector until 1999.George and Marjorie returned to Ludington in 1994.George was a Life Member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the American Legion, the Mason County Republican Party and former member of the Ludington Optimist Club. He was a life long Lutheran, and a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.George is survived by Marjorie, his wife of 60 years, daughter Kittie (Steve) Palm-Houser, son George (Susan) Palm, Jr., foster daughter Ellen (Paul) Vascik, grandchildren Ramona Palm-Oslin, Devin(Matthew) Dunn, foster granddaughter Melody (Jeremy) McCardle, step grandchildren Amy (Mike) Funnell, Robert (Brandy) Chritz, step-grandchildren Amelia Houser and John Houser, great granddaughter Kiley Johnson, and step great-grandchildren Alex Rodriguez and Alysa Chritz.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30 at Emanuel Lutheran Church.
