Harold J. Summers, age 87, of Midland died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Brittany Manor. He was born in Bay City on Nov. 13, 1922 to the late George and Irene (Taylor) Summers.Harold married the love of his life Betty J. Kennedy on January 28,1950 here in Midland.Harold worked for American Hoist and Derrick Company until 1983 and then worked for Midland Daily News as a carrier from 1983 until 1993 when he retired.He served in the US Army during World War II from 1943 until 1945.Harold enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, fixing things and helping other people.He loved playing cards and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed!He is survived by; his wife Betty, daughters Luann Ricker of Bay City, Susan (Norman) Andrews of Blissfield, Carol (Clay) Hurley of Elizabeth Town, Ky. His son Steve Summers of Midland, 14 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, sisters Shirley Kennedy of Midland, Norma Mann of Mesa Az., brother Gerald “Jerry” (Elvira) Summers of Saginaw and many nieces and nephews.Mr. Summers was preceded in death by a sister Betty Listvan, brothers Merlin “Chick” Summers and Howard Summers.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly Rd. with the Rev. Wayne Shidler of Heartland Hospice officiating. A burial will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery with military rites under the auspices of the Midland County Veterans.Visitation for Mr. Summers will begin at the funeral home Monday evening from 5 until 7 pm and before the funeral from 10:00 until the time of the service.Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Heartland Hospice.
