Harriette Frances Miller, 100, of Midland, died at Sterling House in Midland on July 4, 2013 with her daughters at her side. Harriette was born in Catlin, IN on April 14, 1913 to the late John Samuel and Rena Belle (Bartley) Grinley. On July 5, 1941 Harriette married her sweetheart, Logan R. Miller in Marshall, IL. Logan predeceased Harriette on Jan. 14, 1999. Harriette lived a long fulfilling life. She had such a great love for teaching and learning that she received her Doctorate Degree. She taught school in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. Harriette loved gardening, traveling and sewing. She was member of the Midland Historical Society, Genealogy Society, Chippewa Nature Center, Zeta Kappa Delta Sorority, WCTU (Women’s Christian Temperance Union) and the Bullock Creek Education Association. Harriette also was the Secretary for the Retired Teachers Organization and Historian of the Midland Church of the Nazarene. Harriette is survived by her daughters Barbara (Thomas) Fookes of Owosso, Beverly (David) Murray of Midland; grandchildren Jeffrey (Lisa) Fookes, Lori (Jay) Thielmann; great grandchildren, Ryan and Logan Fookes, Sophia, Isabelle, Julia and Elise Thielmann, and her brother Louis Grinley. Harriette was predeceased by 6 siblings. A Funeral Service will be held at the Community Church of the Nazarene, 5700 Jefferson Ave., Midland, at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly on Monday, July 8 from 5 until 7 pm and at the Church on Tuesday, July 9 from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
