Hattie Rosamond (Bowers) Oakley, born March 15, 1914, in Allen County, Ohio, died March 9,2012, in Austin, Texas, at the age of97. Mom married the love of her life, Hugh Oakley, on June 2, 1935, and shared 69 years together until Dad’s death on September 9, 2004. By the grace of God, they are reunited eternally in Heaven. Mom and Dad lived in Midland, Michigan, from 1935 to 1996 when they moved to Austin. They were charter members of Calvary Baptist Church where she served in several ministries. She often recalled the blessings she experienced as teacher of the first Shepherd’s Class for special needs children. Mom graciously welcomed everyone to her home-children’s friends, a foster child, college presidents, and missionaries from around the world. She embodied the unconditional love of Jesus and passed it on to all. Mom is survived by her daughter, Joan and husband, Jerry Andersen of Austin, Texas, son, Ted and wife Carol (Schultz) Oakley of Powell, Ohio, 6 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 6100 Perrine Road, Thursday, March 15. Visitation will be at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. The family gratefully acknowledges the love and care Mom received from the staff of Stonebridge Health Center, Austin, Texas, where she resided the last seven years of her life. The family is being assisted in Midland by Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly.
