(February 13, 1918 – February 8, 2012)

Helen Elizabeth Macklin, 93, born Feb. 13, 1918, daughter of the late James and Beryl Whitacre, passed away, peacefully at Colonial Villa, on Feb. 8, 2012. She lived a long and happy life. She enjoyed crank starting her dad’s car then many years later riding in her sons Toyota Hybrid. A longtime resident of Ft. Wayne, IN and Big Rapids, MI, she moved to Midland to be near her only child, Larry, after her husband Howard’s death in 1997. Helen has a Masters Degree in Counseling and was an athletic and English teacher at Ft. Wayne Bible College from 1965 – 1970. She loved gardening and teaching Old Testament Bible truths. Helen is survived by her son Larry (Pam); granddaughter, Staci (Steve)Roethlisberger; grandson, Chris (Raeanne) and great granddaughter Ayla Brynn Macklin. Helen was predeceased by her sister-in-law Wilma Dutcher. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Murphrey officiating. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 from 6 til 8 pm and at the Church on Wednesday from 9 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Twin Hills Cemetery in Pennville, IN. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Gideons or Calvary Baptist Church.
