Irene Maxwell, 99, of Midland, died peacefully at her Riverside apartment on Nov. 24, 2011. Irene was born in Brant, MI on May 18, 1912 to the late Walter and Clara (Ward) Luttenbacher. On Nov. 11, 1932 Irene married her college sweetheart, George Maxwell, who predeceased her on Oct. 7, 1994. Irene was a member of the Hope Methodist Church, a life member of the Eastern Star, the Midland Historical Society, and volunteered for many years at the Kidney Foundation in Fort Myers, FL. She loved traveling, spending time at her Lake Mitchell cottage, and being with her family. Irene is survived by her daughter, Cindy (John) Philips of Bloomfield Hills; sons, Mervyn (Pat) of Estero, FL, Gilbert of Birmingham, Ross (Libby) of Bloomfield Hills; grandchildren, Holly, Mark, Melissa; 4 great grandchildren, Rachel, Claire, Logan and Annabelle. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackelry. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
