Irene T. Karle, age 95, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2012 at King?ÇÖs Daughters Home in Midland. Irene was the fourth of eight children, born in Detroit on June 7, 1916, to Roman and Clara (Renauer) Stuve. Irene graduated from Detroit?ÇÖs MacKenzie High School in 1934. She worked as a nanny, a soda jerk at Cunningham?ÇÖs Drug Store, and a secretary for General Filters. On November 23, 1939, Irene married Gene E. Karle. She often said, ?Ç£The best decision I ever made in my life was to marry Gene.?Ç¥ They honeymooned in New York City riding the subways. Together, they raised three children, first living on Detroit?ÇÖs northwest side and later, in Irene?ÇÖs dream house which they built on Upper Pettibone Lake in Highland Township. Irene enjoyed traveling with her husband around the country. After Gene passed away, Irene continued to travel, visiting places including China, Europe and the Middle East.In Milford, Irene helped form a widows?ÇÖ group, participated in the Milford seniors?ÇÖ organization, and was a very active, long-standing volunteer at St. Mary?ÇÖs Church?Çöeven becoming a ?Çÿsubstitute grandmother?ÇÖ for a Laotian family. In 1994 Irene moved to Riverside Place in Midland. She planted peonies at her new home, and enjoyed her many friends, shopping at the farmers?ÇÖ market, and walking along the river. Irene was a member of the Quilters Club and St. Brigid Church. When Irene moved to King?ÇÖs Daughters Home in 2008, she was surrounded by a loving, caring staff who nurtured her with kindness and compassion. New Year?ÇÖs 2012 was one of Irene?ÇÖs last celebrations. When her daughter asked Irene to share advice with those gathered, Irene looked around at her family and said, ?Ç£Stay together!?Ç¥ Irene Karle is survived by her daughters Clarissa (Paul) Heil of Midland, Elaine Karle (Jerry Schuur) of East Lansing, daughter-in-law Linda Karle of Highland, and five grandchildren: Holly Karle, Bart (Lynn) Heil, Alex Karle, Hanns (Sara) Heil, Max Heil, and sister Geraldine Cooney of Florida, brother Dick (Terri) Stuve of Livonia, and sister-in-law Rita Stuve of Wayne. She was predeceased by her husband, Gene, son Karl, and six siblings. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary?ÇÖs Our Lady of the Snows Parish (1955 Commerce Street, Milford, MI) at 11:00 a.m. on March 20, 2012.
