J. Willard Hagle, 85, of Midland, died unexpectedly, on July 3, 2011 at MidMichigan Medical Center. Willard was born on July 24, 1925 in Midland to the late Seth and Elsie (Smith) Hagle. On July 14, 1951 Willard married his sweetheart and best friend of 60 yrs. Ruth Hines in the old St. John’s Lutheran Church. Willard served his country honorably during WWII in the U.S. Marine Corps. and was in the first wave at Iwo Jima. After his honorable discharge Willard was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Willard loved painting, which he was very adept at. He loved woodworking, working with his hands, his lawn mower and his dog Abby. Willard especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Willard is survived by his wife Ruth, daughters Brenda Klembecki of Midland, Yvette “Sam” J. (Jerry) VanderLaan of McBain; son, Tim W. (Susan) Hagle of Midland; grandchildren, John Klembecki, Tina (Jon) Moon, Travis VanderLaan, Seth (Sara) VanderLaan, Lance VanderLaan, Nicole (Jim) Hovey, Paul Hagle; great grandchildren, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Jonathan, Xavier, Roman, Wyatt; brother, Joseph Herbert Hagle of Montana; sister-in-law, Joyce Hagle; and many nieces and nephews. Willard was preceded in death by his brothers , Mike and Ted; sisters-in-law, Joyce and Dottie. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 7 at 11:00 am at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, July, 6 from 6 to 8 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Military honors will be observed under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps. and the Midland Area Veterans. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Willard’s Family.
