James E. Brabaw, 75, recently returned home to Midland, MI, having lived the last 25 years in Texas, died on April 25, 2010 after battling several illnesses. His family was able to be with him at the end to give comfort and support. James was born on August 19, 1934 to Ralph William Brabaw and the late Adeline Elizabeth Noyes. He grew up in the country and lived with his family on Brabaw Dr where he built a home and raised his five children. In his younger years he was an avid horseman and was involved in 4H, was a 4H leader and won many 1st place blue ribbons. He saved his own money to buy and train his favorite horse, a Pinto named Billy. He was an excellent rider and enjoyed riding bareback. Jim loved cars and was especially proud of his ’49 Plymouth. He attended Windover School and Midland High School. Jim worked for The Dow Chemical Co. for 30 years and retired from the Tank Car Wash in 1985. He also worked for Denison Oil Co. delivering fuel before working at Dow. Jim is survived by his wife, Lena Belle Brabaw of Kingsland, TX who he married on October 11, 1989 and his 100 year old father, Ralph Brabaw of Auburn, MI. He is also survived by Julie Bryll the mother of his five children: Candice Ann Brabaw, Midland, MI, James Eugene Brabaw II, Mason, TX, Steven L. (Kathy) Brabaw, Elizabeth Louise (Michael) Beale and Brian Lee (Annette) Brabaw all of Midland, MI; grandchildren: Brandon Chien, James Eugene Brabaw III, Robert Brabaw, Regina Brabaw, Crystal Brabaw, Kristopher Brabaw, Jessica Brabaw, Nicole Brabaw, Matthew Beale, Dustin Clark and Jay Rittmaier; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Francis (Robert) Beadle, Midland, MI, Robert (Joyce) Brabaw, Midland, MI, Alice (Doyce) Moe, Standish, MI, Patricia (Roy) Boring, Mason, TX, Ralph “Bill” (Judy) Brabaw, Sanford, MI, Richard (Connie) Brabaw, Green Valley, AZ, Ned (Sheri) Brabaw, Midland, MI, Jane (Ralph) Coldewe, St. Louis, MO and Joan Lovelace, Rio Rancho, NM; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his Aunt Betty Purcell. Jim was pre-deceased by his mother (Adeline Brabaw) and granddaughter Mackenzie Jane Beale. Jim was dedicated to his family and will be greatly missed at family get togethers. He was an honest and hardworking man that could be counted on to help whenever needed and would give you the shirt off his back if necessary. James, Jim, Dad, Pa, Grandpa, Beaner we LOVE you and MISS you already. A Funeral Service will be held at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Friday, April 30, at 11 am with Pastor Gib Giblin of Midland Evangelical Free Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday, April 29 from 4 to 7 pm and on Friday from 10 am until the time of the service.
