Jean D. Hartung, 77, formerly of Middle Village, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 23, 1939 to the late Roy and Katherine (Nowakowski) Ruszkowski. On February 11th , she and her husband, Gerhard, celebrated 55 years of marriage.Jean’s compassion and desire to help people led to a 44-year career in various roles as a registered nurse, including many years as a head nurse. She retired from Utilization Review at North Shore LIJ Hospital in 2004. In her free time, she helped her husband with office management at his orthopedic business in Manhattan. She was an avid reader and other hobbies included travel, sewing, and crocheting. She loved to polka and enjoyed attending local German and Polish festivals to celebrate her and her husband’s heritage. Her greatest love was her family and she adored her dog, Molly. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her quick wit and sense of humor.Jean is survived by her loving husband, Gerhard, children; Jennifer (Doug) LaRose, Geraldine (Russ) Rogers, Andrew (Carolyn) Hartung, and grandchildren; Erika, Emma, Julia, Matthew, Dawson, Abigail, and Landon. She is also survived by her brother, Roy (Karen) Ruszkowski.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament with Fr. Kevin Maksym officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Michael J.
