Welcome to Smith Miner

Jeanette (Judy) Hockaday peacefully departed this world for heaven on Friday, April 20, 2018 surrounded by family at home in Midland, Michigan at the age of 79.
She was born in Gladwin, Michigan on October 7, 1938 to the late Richard and Lena Houghtaling. She graduated from Midland High in 1957. Bob and Judy started seeing each other in the 6th grade and loved each other immensely from then on. They were married in Midland on June 29,1957. Together they built an incredible home that Judy loved to decorate, she had such an eye for taking individual pieces and making them into something beautiful. Judy was faithful to her church and worked behind the scenes to add joy to each season through her decorations. When she was not decorating, she and Bob loved to travel in their trailer and find new places to pick blueberries.
Judy learned to love well from her steadfast relationship with the Lord. She shared this love with those around her, especially with her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her family, talking, shopping, or cooking; time with Judy was always well spent. God blessed us all with 13 more years than doctors said we should have had as he sustained her through a 13-year fight with cancer. We find joy and peace in this time knowing that she is now face to face with her precious savior.
Judy is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years Robert, son Christopher (Dawn) Hockaday, daughter Marjory (Anthony) Koppinger; grandchildren, Leah (Dan) Lewis, Cal (Kelsey) Hockaday, Kristie (Rob) Mulder, Adrienne Koppinger, Mitchell Koppinger, and Sydney Koppinger; brother Larry (Irene) Houghtaling, and step-brother Rodger (Kris) Kipfmiller. She was preceded in death by son Dennis Hockaday; father Richard Houghtaling and mother Lena (Kip) Kipfmiller; sister Lynne Kloha, brother Kenneth Houghtaling and step-brother Tim (Sue) Kipfmiller.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Midland Free Methodist Church. A visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am and a luncheon will be served after the service. Pastor Scott Palmiter and Pastor Gene LaForge will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Judy’s life.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Midland Free Methodist Church or Covenant Hills Camp.
