John S. Reder, 73, of Midland, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born in Bay City on March 8, 1942, the son of the late Stanley and Marian (Maciejewski) Reder. John hired into the Midland County Sheriff?ÇÖs office in 1967 when he was just 24 years old. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1968 during the Vietnam Era. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1970 and then on to Lieutenant and assigned as chief jailer in 1972. In 1975 John was awarded outstanding officer in the Sheriff?ÇÖs office by the Midland Exchange Club and he was promoted to administrative captain that year. He was selected as sheriff in 1990 serving until he retired in 2004. John was one of the founders of the Michigan Association Mission Investigation Team.John was a very generous man. He was active with St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church and Our Lady of Grace in Sanford. He was a Eucharistic Minister for the home bound at the local nursing homes. John is survived by his siblings; Joanne Stange of Rochester, MI, Patricia Fritz, William (Marcia) Reder of Auburn, step-sister Lucille Wiesenauer of Auburn, along with several nieces, nephews and close friends.John was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Herbert Stange and James Fritz, and a niece, Ann Marie Fritz.A funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick O?ÇÖConnor officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, February 22, 2016 from 4-7pm and Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 2-7pm. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday at 10:30 am at the funeral home with the funeral liturgy to follow at St. Brigid. Burial will take place immediately at St. Anthony Cemetery in Auburn.
