Joseph Estle Lyons, 84, of Midland died on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Kindy Care Center in Freeland. Joseph was born on April 19, 1930 to the former Estle and Theresa (Mesh) Lyons. On June 6, 1953 Joseph married Glee Mapes who preceded him in death on September 27, 2013.Joe was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from The Dow Chemical Company after 37 years of service. Joe volunteered at the Midland Township Fire Department for 47 years. He was a member of the Central Michigan Old Car Club and enjoyed attending parades and car events with his family. Joe?ÇÖs son Kriss donated a kidney to him in 2001, so he was able to enjoy the last 14 years of his life without being on dialysis. Joe is survived by his daughters; Kathy (Fred) Sabel of Traverse City and Brenda (Tim) Machelski of Hope, sons; Kim Lyons of Hope, Kriss Lyons and Tom Lyons both of Midland, grandchildren; A.J. and Ann Machelski and Taylor Lyons. He is also survived by his sisters Willabelle Van Meter and Gail Decker. The family would like to thank Kindy Care Center staff and Hometown Home Health & Hospice. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Brigid of Kildare on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM with Fr. James Bessert officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 9 AM until the time of service.
