Joyce C. McConkey, 92, of Midland, died at Tendercare of Midland, on Nov. 26, 2010. Joyce was born in Shiawassee County on March 25, 1918 to the late Bertha (Shuman) and Howard Conklin. Joyce had the opportunity to be married to 2 wonderful men, the late Anthony Rapes from 1941to 1980, and the late Maynard McConkey, from 1984 to 1990. Joyce was a teacher at heart and had a great work ethic which she taught to her family. Joyce graduate from Michigan State University. She taught in the Clare, Rochester, Bad Axe, Sebewing and Caseville school districts. Joyce was a member of AAUW, Zeta Tau Alpha and 4-H of Macomb Co. She loved 4-H, sewing, knitting, needle work, baking and later in life painting with watercolors. She was also a big proponent of adult education. Joyce was the love of her family and will be greatly missed. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Nancy (James) MacRae of Midland, JoAnn (Robert) Milton of Big Sur, CA; son, Larry (Marilyn) Rapes of Lake Port, MI; step daughters, Janet (Clarke) Cummings of Mt. Pleasant, Linda (Joe) Riley of Ann Arbor; step son, Edward (Karen) McConkey of Haymarket, VA; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and her brother Bruce (Nancy) Conklin of Corunna. Joyce was predeceased by her sisters Donna Brown and June Jansen. A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 315 W. Larkin, Midland, on Monday, Dec. 20 at 11:00 am with Reverend Lisa McIlvenna officiating . In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may consider the Anthony L.
