June L. (Tigner) Meyer Shanholtz, 83, of Sanford, died peacefully on June 9, 2013 at MidMichigan Stratford Village. June was born on June 22, 1929 to Clarence and Helen (Hehnlin) Tigner. She graduated from Coleman High School in 1947. She married Robert J. Meyer (Bob) on June 19, 1948. They resided in Saginaw for several years before returning to Sanford in the 1950’s. June was instrumental in managing many of the Meyer family’s Sanford businesses including: the Hide-A-Way Motel, Meyer Electrical and Heating, and Meyer Real Estate and Insurance. She and Bob opened the Red Oak Lounge in 1965 and sold the business in 1972. In 1975 they moved to Florida where she worked in the insurance department at Disney World. They enjoyed the RV life and made many new friends while Bob managed several RV parks. June was predeceased by Bob in 1983. In 1984 she returned to Sanford to be near her daughters and grandchildren. During that time she continued to work in the insurance business at various agencies in the area. She was active in the WBA, Historical Society, Curves, Friends of the Library and Red Hats. On June 6, 1992 she married Harvey Shanholtz, one of their widowed RV friends. They enjoyed twenty-one years together residing in Sanford and wintering in Florida. He survived her. June is also survived by her daughters Cathy (William) Samdal, Patty (Valentine II) Young; grandchildren, Lara (Greg) Wagner, Adrienne (Christian) Hatzenbeler, Tressa Samdal, Robert (Marcy) Young; great grandchildren, Kylah, Lucas, Brennen, Presley, Roman, Kason and Kellen; brother, Lee Tigner and several nephews and nieces. A brother Donald predeceased her. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 11:00 am with Reverend Paul Young officiating. The family will receive friends at St. Paul’s on Monday from 10 am until the time of the service.
