Welcome to Smith Miner

June Marie Rey, 84, of Hope, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on January 5, 2019. She was born on June 30, 1934 to Harold M. and Hazel E. (Prue) Rollo. She married Donald Lee Rey on May 15, 1954 and was a loving wife of 55 years until his death in 2009.

In addition to being a devoted wife, June was a caring mother having raised 8 children. June and Don’s family started on Sarsfield in Warren, MI in 1955. As the family grew, they moved in 1966 to Fraser, MI on Adolph Avenue and then upon retiring they moved to Hope, MI. June was an avid Bingo player, a Red Hat Lady and member of the “Pinochle Club” for 53 years. June enjoyed family gatherings and always had a hug and smile for everyone. She often greeted her grandchildren with a pinch or a kiss. Her love for family was never more evident than when her face brightened and came to life when visited by her grand and great grand babies.

June is survived by her children: Timothy (Mary), Anthony (Janice), Theodore (Deborah), Terry (Nancy deceased), Todd (Ted), Susan (Rob) Walters, Thomas (Cynthia), Troy (Kristi) as well as 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was also survived by her sister Janet (Clyde) Szatkowski and in-laws Joe (Pat) Rey.

In addition to her parents, June is predeceased by her brothers, Donald Rollo and Harry Rollo, and by her sisters, Marion Grogis and Ruth Ann Hunsinger.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 3109 Swede Avenue, Midland with Fr. Kevin Maksym and Fr. Pete Gaspeny officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home from 4-7pm with a vigil service commencing at 6:30 pm and on Thursday at the church from 10 am until the time of service. There are only so many words in the English language, none of which seem most appropriate for this moment. THANK YOU for our conversations, your advice, and the love you have given ALL of us. The legacy you and Grandpa created will live beyond your most wild imagination. I love you and miss you.

Grandma, You have taught me so much in this life but three things really come to mind in this moment. The first being that Girls are evil, let me tell you that this has stood true for quite awhile until recently lol. 2. How to be tough and never give up. There a multiple examples of this throughout your life but the most recent would be the cancer. Diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in December of 2016 you were given less than 6 months to live. Here we are 2 years later we have gone to 3 weddings together and met an additional 4 great grand children (One still being in a belly ☺️) as well as watching me walk across the stage when I graduated with my bachelors, all because you refused to give up and kept fighting. And 3, the most important of all, how to LOVE. Both you and Grandpa Rey gave this family the greatest gift possible. The two of you gave this world 7 outstanding gentlemen and 1 wonderful princess. By loving, guiding and growing with your children you produced 8 successful and very well respected humans for this world. Because of your LOVE and devotion, these 8 went on to share the love and I was given the blessing of being raised with 20 cousins. Because of how you taught my parents and aunts and uncles to love I got to grow up with 20 cousins that are more like brothers and sisters. Not only is the Rey family bigger than most, but we are closer than most. I cannot begin to explain how thankful I am for this. Thank you for giving us the greatest gift that we can receive in this world. You are dearly missed and always will be. RIP 01.05.19 💕

P.S. I hope you win more times than not in bingo up there. 😊
