Karen Rae Byron, 64, of DeWitt, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016 due to heart complication. She was born in Owosso on February 29, 1952 to John and Marie (Searfoss) Byron. John Byron, her father, predeceased her on April 18, 2014.Karen worked for the State of Michigan as an analyst. Much of her life was devoted to her beloved dogs. She enjoyed her family, friends and flower gardening. Karen spent many years volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters having been a mentor to a Little Sister. She will be remembered as having a special love for animals and is survived by her German Shepherd, Hailey. The family is grateful for Karen?ÇÖs very close friends who were with her when she needed them.Karen is survived by her mother, Marie, brothers; Bruce (Denise) Byron, John Byron, Scott (Linda) Byron, Keith (Rachel Sunderland) Byron, sisters; Linda (Chuck) Romine, Lori (Lee) Engwis, Jane (Cal Trent) Byron, Amy (Todd) Shepard. She is also survived by and loved her 17 nieces and nephews and cousins.A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Grand Ledge Opera House, 121 S. Bridge Street, Grand Ledge, MI 48837.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the Lansing Humane Society or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lansing.Smith-Miner Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
