Welcome to Smith Miner

(October 21, 1993 – May 10, 2013)

Kileigh Elaine Short, 19, of Breckenridge was greeted at the gates of Heaven by her grandfather, Gerald Short and great-grandparents, Elmer and Josephine Short, Ray and Eva McCann, Ruth and Elden Keel, and R.V. and Inez Vogel. The Higher Power needed a creative, passionate and compassionate soul to stand beside him in his Kingdom. Wanting the whole bud rather than just the flower, He called upon Kileigh to design his Kingdom with her uncanny ability to view her environment with an artist’s view. Her natural artistic ability was unlimited. She explored and conquered painting, photography, and lost herself in music. Kileigh believed we are all one and pursued her life’s passion of caring for the unprotected by supporting PETA, No Kill Shelters and the World Wide Fund for Nature. She practiced veganism as a testament to her convictions. A Buddhist quote explains her beliefs, “Until he has unconditional and unbiased love for all beings, man will not find peace”. Kileigh attended Delta College where she prepared for a degree in anthropology and was acknowledged in the honor’s program. Kileigh sought to find what is lost inside. Her fervor and compassion could not go unnoticed by the relationships she had with others. Her beauty and grace touched the lives of many who crossed her path, she chose the road less traveled. Kileigh was born on Oct. 21, 1993 to Linette (Keel) and Brad Short of Breckenridge. She is survived by her parents; brothers, Brittin (Rebecca) and Quayd; grandparents, Rodger (Diane) Keel, Lois Keel-Blakely, and Joyce Short; aunts, Carol Stahl and Julie (Lyndon) Walden; uncles, Brian (Amy) Keel, Scott Short, and Jeff (Karen) Short; cousins, Michael and Brandon Keel, Alicia Tippin, Bailie and Alexandra Waldron, Katie and Emylie Short, Cortney Smerdon, Bradley Short; niece Madeline Short; and friend Zach Schaeding. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, Midland with Chaplain Roger Stauffer officiating. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Midland Humane Society or Jerry Short Memorial Scholarship Fund (Jerry is Kileigh’s grandfather).
