Lawrence L. “Shorty” Wendt, 85, of Hope, died at the Cascades on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011. Shorty was born on Aug. 25, 1925, in Hope, to the late Michael L. and Bertha (Arnold) Wendt. Shorty served his country honorably during World War II in the U. S. Navy. He worked as a Shift Foreman in the plastics division of Dow Chemical, retiring in 1978. He loved flying and was a pilot for over 40 years. He liked going to restaurants and seeing his friends. Shorty is survived by his daughter, Rose Ann Trylch of Hope; sons, William of Gladwin, Michael (Audrey) of Hope, Christopher (Cheryl) of Clinton, Utah; grandchildren, Tinaka (Dale) Anderson, Rebecca (Ryan) Suhr, Jake Wendt, George Wendt, Victoria (Brian) Warenski, Ashley (Randy) Hare, Colten Wendt, Bryce Wendt, Trenton Wendt; 8 great Grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Almquist, Velma Meyers, Birdie (Bertha) Clark and Marie Robinson. Shorty was predeceased by his sisters, Rosella Vennard, Laura LeVasseur, Ruby Jones and his brother Ted. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday. Jan. 22, at 1:00 pm at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, with Chaplain Bob Metevia of Southern Care Hospice officiating. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 22 from 10 am until the time of the service.
