Our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather Lawrence R. Stanford, 91, died on Monday, December 16, 2013 at DeSoto Memorial Hospital. Lawrence was born October 11, 1922 to Glenn and Lulu (Jones) Stanford in Midland, Michigan. He married Erma Ryal in 1946 who predeceased him in 2000. Lawrence joined the Navy and served from 1942 to1945 in the Armed Guard during World War II. He then served from 1948 to 1951 in the National Guard. Lawrence worked as a researcher for Dow Chemical until his retirement in 1979. Upon retiring he spent three years is Texas and the past years in Arcadia, Florida. Lawrence was an avid golfer and in his lifetime had 3 holes in one and was so proud of that. Lawrence was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Arcadia. Lawrence is survived by daughters Barbara Moore of Ft. Myers, FL and Peggy Martin, of Pt. Charlotte, FL, grandchildren; LCDR Michael J. (Cheryl) Martin, USN, Lori and Rodger Lightfoot, Brett (Missy) Baum and Daniel (Amanda) Baum as well as 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister in law Edna Stanford of Midland, MI and special friend Karolyn Medici of Arcadia, FL. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, his wife Erma, son Larry Max, and sons in law, Charles M. Moore and Eugene Martin. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Fred, Bob, Joe, Frank, Willis and Dale as well as his sisters Mable Bates, Ima Churchfield, Helen Procunier and Nellie McLaren. A funeral service will be held Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Smith-Miner Funeral Home with Reverend Kurt Eichinger of the Lord of New Life Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation for Lawrence will be Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 5-7pm and on Monday from 10am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Midland City Cemetery.
